2nd ride

new years day, 2008.
another trip to the coffee shop and another apple juice.
this one took a bit longer as he would get off and p/u snow/ice to offer us.
four blocks back, then it was time to walk.
video.

1st ride

we got a a bike for xmas.
K2 - 12Z. new
wanted to get one used, but it was a last minute decision.
from xmas to dec 29th, he rode it inside as we got about 6-8 inches of snow.
on dec 30th, we took him out on his inaugural ride to the coffee shop.
half way through the snow and ice packed alley, crash number one happened.
i was doing a half-assed job of pushing and supporting him when the front wheel slid out and down he went.
the only casualty was the right antenna on the ladybug bell i bought him.
i picked aiden up and we all high-fived to show him he did a good job of falling down.
after brushing off the snow and walking the next 3 meters to the sidewalk,
aiden hopped back on the bike and pedaled 5 blocks to the coffee shop for some apple juice.
on the return trip, he made it 4 blocks and decided he wanted to walk.
not bad for his first time out.

bike

we got a his first bike with training wheels.
he hopped on xmas morning and found it tough to pedal.
p took a look and sure enough, the bottom bracket bearing cup was not adjusted.
glad i'm knowledgeable in regards to bike repair.
so i broke out the adjustable wrench and a spanner.
a couple minutes later, easy pedaling.
crappy rei mechanics. didn't check the bottom bracket.

i wonder how many parents purchase bikes, get home, find out it's tough to pedal,
drive back to the store where they purchased the bike, get a ticket written up for bike repairs/adjustment,
wait for an adjustment hoping they can do it then and there and not have to wait
a day or two.
